Last Issue of Self Reliance Illustrated

Last Issue of Self Reliance Illustrated

Self Reliance IllustratedIn many ways it saddens me to share this news with you.   I have been blessed to write for Self Reliance Illustrated with two of my articles being featured in each of these issues – Issue 19, Issue 20, Issue 21 and Issue 22.  We have been subscribers to SRI since they started.  Dave Canterbury has been someone we followed since he started putting his videos on YouTube many many years ago.  When Dave announced that he started a magazine – we were one of the first to subscribe to SRI.

Dave Canterbury, LT Wright Knives and Self Reliance Illustrated announced earlier this month that they were shutting down the magazine.  This was such sad news because we loved being able to read all the articles and it was quite an honor to end up being a contributing writer for SRI.  I never in a million years imagined when I first subscribed that I would be able to embrace my dream of writing in the very near future let alone being a contributing writer for a magazine we held so high!  I felt very honored to write for SRI and to be amongst the other amazing contributors!

Although this is sad news, there is also some good news to share as well.   Even though they have shut down the magazine, they have compiled a digital archive of ALL of their issues that is available to you.  So if you have not had a chance to get all the issues or have never seen SRI before, now is your chance to get all 22 issues for only $3.99.  This is truly a steal for all the information that is included!  It thoroughly excites me that this is available and I took the time to purchase my copy as well so I can store in on my ipad.

It has been a tremendous honor to be a part of this venture and also to be included in this last issue.

You will find my articles titled:

  • How To Butcher Chickens – Issue #19
  • What’s In My Pantry – Issue #19
  • The Benefits of Salves and Tinctures – Issue #20
  • Homeschooling with a Special Needs Child – Issue #20
  • Putting Your Summer Harvest On Your Canning Shelves  – Issue #21
  • Got Goat’s Milk – Issue #21
  • Cooking With Cast Iron – Issue #22
  • How To Can Game Meats – Issue #22

You will also find several of my friend’s featured in this issue as well, such as Melissa K. Norris, Craig and Jennifer Caudill, Jamie Burleigh and so many more….

You can purchase the individual digital issues here or you can purchase ALL issues 1 – 22 here.  I just didn’t want you all to miss out on owning these amazing informational issues of the Self Reliance Illustrated.  We have always said they are like an encyclopedia for your shelves not a magazine that gets tossed.  The information will never change as most of it is age old techniques and skills…

A special thank you to Self Reliance Illustrated and the staff as well as Dave Canterbury, LT Wright Knives and Mike Henninger for the opportunity to work with you all!

Enjoy and get your copy now…..

American Frontiersman Magazine 2015 Issue 191

American Frontiersman Magazine 2015 Issue 191

American Frontiersman Magazine Issue 191 - 2015I was blessed with the amazing opportunity to write an article about my son Austin, the Mountain Boy.  As many of you know, Austin is high functioning autistic with asperger tendencies.  You can find his story in this issue of the American Frontiersman title Modern Day Mountain Men and a DIY title Rifleman’s Sling Upgrade.

Our lifestyle has provided Austin with a chance to live life to the fullest without the stresses of the modern day.  With this opportunity came great accomplishments and provided him with the ability to overcome 98% of his autistic tendencies.  I am so proud of him and his accomplishments.  This article pulled many heart strings and is one that I am also very proud to have been given the opportunity to write.  Our hope is that we can reach many and in some way offer them inspiration, hope and even guidance on how we overcame and conquered autism and that it can be done.

We are running a special giveaway for our YouTube subscribers, if you would like to enter our giveaway for a free copy of this issue of the American Frontiersman Magazines, you can do so here.  Winner will be chosen on February 1st, 2015.  Our winner will be announced on February 1st, 2015.

You may like to read a post I wrote here on our site in regard to WHAT we have learned with autism and HOW we conquered it.

American  Frontiersman Magazine as well as many other Harris Publications such as the New Pioneer Magazine to which I also contribute to can be subscribed to here.

The full article is also being shared on RealWorldSurvivor.com

Blessings,

I can now say that I am officially a contributing writer for Cabin Life Magazine with their Summer of 2014 issue.  You will be able to find my Q & A on Alternative Power Sources in this issue.

Self Reliance Illustrated Issue #20 includes 3 of my articles

Self Reliance Illustrated Issue #20 includes 3 of my articles

Self Reliance Illustrated Issue 19 In March, my first 2 articles debuted in Self Reliance Illustrated’s Issue #19.  It was quite an honor for me to be printed in this magazine.

Our family has been receiving these magazines from the day the 1st issue was printed.  At the time I could have never in a million years, as the saying goes, have imagined that I would some day see my name displayed inside.

At that time, writing was in the back of my mind as a dream that maybe someday I would attain, but God was still playing with those ideas.

Yesterday, I received my copy of Self Reliance Illustrated Issue #20 which has 3 of my articles in print.

I am extremely excited about these articles:

  • The Benefits of Salves and Tinctures
  • Goodness and Benefits of Tea
  • Homesteading and Survival with a Special Needs Child

Homesteading and Survival with a Special Needs Child holds a place near and dear to my heart and especially right now.

Our Mountain Boy is 17 1/2 right now and we just towed his 1st vehicle back to the wilderness, a 1951 Willy Jeep.

Mountain Boy Journals - 1951 Willy Jeep

It will require a little TLC, but it is a GREAT 1st vehicle, one that myself and the Mountain Man are just a touch envious of!

In addition to this excitement, he also passed and received his Idaho Learner’s Permit.  These are HUGE steps for our boy and honestly there were times early in his life that the thought crossed my mind that he may never be able to drive!  It is amazing what faith, trust and perseverance can accomplish.

Never give up on anything in life, especially  another person!  The sky is the limit and determination can open doors.

Thanks for following our adventures and I highly encourage you to subscribe to Self Reliance Illustrated, not because I am a contributing writer, but because there are many other amazing contributors providing you with priceless information issue after issue!

If you are new to our page, we are currently giving away 5 copies of Self Reliance Illustrated’s Issue #19.  Use the link below to enter!

New Pioneer Magazine Debut

Well this is an exciting week for our family.  I have always had the desire to write and in 2012 I embraced that dream.

I took a 6 week writing course in March and mid-way through my teacher suggested that I query some magazines with my ideas.  We had been enjoying the New Pioneer Magazine because of their content.  They focus on pioneering, homesteading and self-reliance which is our lifestyle and right up our alley.

I submitted my queries to the New Pioneer Magazine and a week later I received an email from the editor.  I was sitting in the living room working when the email came through stating that they accepted my query.  The Mountain Man was outside and I was totally taken back by the email.  I ran downstairs and grabbed the door knob from the inside as he was grabbing the door knob from the outside.  We were both a bit caught off guard, but he was even more caught off guard when I burst into tears…  Excited tears they were, but the Mountain Man was so taken back he thought someone died.

It was an exciting day and was just the start of my writing excitement.  Over the course of 2012 I wrote seven different articles for the New Pioneer  Magazine and I am currently working on four more.

In Fall of 2012 we were contacted by the editor once again to let us know that they would like to send their photographer out to get cover pictures.  As if it wasn’t wild enough that my 1st query was accepted and I have been able to continue writing for them, but now with my 1st article going to be published they also wanted to feature us on the cover.

This is not the 1st time we have experienced God’s grace and timing.  God has played a big roll in our venture to Idaho from the beginning and to watch as the doors continue to swing open and everything aligns.  It is amazing to see his hand at work.

Nancy Tappan, the editor of the New Pioneer Magazine has been such a blessing too.   She is such a sweetheart and she is so much fun to work with.

So today I end my post in sharing our amazing news.  This week the New Pioneer Magazine has placed their 1st 2013 issue of their magazine on the shelves and my feature article is published in it as well as another article that I wrote and our family is on the cover.

New Pioneer Magazine 2013

Our venture continues and we are very thankful that ya’ll enjoy following us….

God bless!  T <3
