Courage Under Siege: Adversity To Victory

Courage Under Siege: Adversity To Victory

Today is a special day for two reasons!  Today is National Tell Your Story Day and today the collaborative book that I am honored to be a part of has gone live on Amazon.

Courage Under Siege:  Adversity To Victory is a collaboration of 11 women (including myself) sharing their stories of how they overcame strife and struggles to live dreams never imagined!

What a privilege it has been to be a part of this project!  It is such a personal goal in life to be able to help others .  We each experience things in our lives that further enable us to be a light to specific people because of our experiences.  I feel it is our responsiblity to not be silent when we are able to help others, but be bold and courageous and make a difference in the lives of others!

14 You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.  Matthew 5:14 – 16

The women of Courage Under Siege:  Adversity To Victory published by Courageous Women Publications  are bold, amazing and courageous women that have stepped out of their comfort zone to share their stories with you!  This book is a great gift item.  If you know men and women that are in a valley struggling, you could simply change their lives by sharing a $.99 purchase and gifting them through Amazon.

This will make me a 3 time author as well as possibly a #1 Best Selling Author (we will know by the end of today)  and if you are not following me on Amazon I would LOVE to have you following me here.

I feel so very blessed in having the opportunity to work with each of these wonderful and strong women!  I hope you are as blessed in reading these amazing stories of how to overcome adversity!  God bless!

Lost On Hope Island: The Amazing Tale Of The Little Goat Midwives

Lost On Hope Island: The Amazing Tale Of The Little Goat Midwives

Lost On Hope Island by Patricia Harmon is geared for middle-grade children, but if you have a homesteaders heart or a preparedness mindset you will greatly enjoy this book as well!  This would also make a great family read-a-loud book that teaches great lessons and touches on the important topics of birth, death, racial diversity, climate change, loneliness, courage, family and most importantly, hope.  I had a very hard time putting it down once I started it.

I ♥ sharing my favorite books and authors with you all.  There is nothing better than a good cup of tea (Pukka Love – organic lavender, chamomile and rose) and a good book during our rainy season or any season for that matter because I LOVE READING.  Our rainy season can last a full month in the spring and the fall and it gets pretty old for a girl like myself that requires direct sun so I love being swept away in a good book!  I enjoyed being on the beach and enjoying the adventures…

With 35 years of experience as a midwife, author Patricia Harman has drawn inspiration from her over 1,000 birth experiences to craft excellent stories such as her brand new adventure novel, Lost On Hope Island:  The Amazing Tale Of The Little Goat Midwives.  A very well written, alluring tale that tells the story of a brother and sister who must learn to survive on their own after getting shipwrecked while on a trip with their parents.  Although they are frightened and unsure of the future, they learn to rely on each other and the resources on the island to stay alive.

There was so much within this book that I could relate to as an off-grid homesteader.  If you are trying to teach your children about preparedness or to think out of the box, this book is highly recommended.  Our focus in all of our posts and videos is to reach all ages.  It is very important for children as well as adults to know basic survival skills and to learn to expand their daily thinking into one of how your days tasks can further prepare you for tomorrow.

So many people today have a very narrow look at preparedness and survival.  They focus on putting things aside in quantity to be prepared moving forward, but they don’t consider often what will happen in a survival situation when those rations are depleted.  Learning the skills necessary for future survival is key along with putting things aside for your future needs.  Those skills are the priceless tools that are more often than not overlooked!

Patricia’s book is a great starting place for both children and adults looking to embrace a newly adapted preparedness mindset.  It is very well rounded and teaches the reader to truly think out of the box for future survival.

Patricia has a wonderful writing style that keeps you hanging on and wanting more.  I feel  Lost On Hope Island:  The Amazing Tale Of The Little Goat Midwives is a wonderful book, but I also feel it is a great investment with all that it offers.

Honestly, I wish I had this book to read as a child!  I LOVED to read and LOVED exploring the outdoors, but this would have put so much into my head to expand on my already wild child desires and put me many steps ahead in my preparedness thinking early on in life!

I highly recommend Patricia Harmon’s books as an addition to your library! ♥

A Physical & Digital Library On The Homestead

A Physical & Digital Library On The Homestead

a-physical-digital-library-on-the-homesteadI absolutely LOVE to read and I equally LOVE to learn as much as I can.  There are many ways to gain knowledge this day in age.  Having a homestead library is important and I never thought I would be able to convert to reading off a machine such as my iPad or a Kindle.  It just didn’t seem ethical to me! 🙂  I grew up with a book in my hand and there is something very special about the feel of a physical book and having my nose buried in it!

BUT, I am here to tell you that I have officially been converted, actually about three years ago when I purchased my iPad.  I had reviewed things on my iPhone, but the screen is so small it is hard on the eyes, but the iPad converted me.

Now don’t get me wrong I still have a great passion for the physical book to which there are many specific ones that I will mention below that I feel are a MUST for every homestead, but when you are able to get many great books very inexpensively or free to add to your digital library I feel that is a great avenue to take.  We have all read that not so good book – it was ok, but maybe not worth the money we spent on it.  I think that expanding your digital library is a great way to determine which books would be the best for your physical library.

Why both libraries?  Well, we live in a fallen and very unstable world in my humble opinion and if there were ever to come a time that our machines didn’t work, whether an EMP or maybe just no power, you would want physical books on hand.  That is why we choose to weed through our digital library and if it is something that would be extremely worthy to have on our homestead we purchase the physical copy.

Here are a list of books that I feel are extremely important to have in your physical library:

Note:  This list is constantly being added to…

Tammy Trayer ♥ The Trayer Wilderness Cookbook ~ Homesteading The Traditional Way ~ Volume 1

Tammy Trayer ♥ How To Embrace An Off-Grid Lifestyle ~ Our Journey & A Step By Step Look At The Lifestyle

Susan Vinskofski’s The Art Of Gardening : Building Your Soil

Angie Schneider’s The Gardening Notebook

There are many great avenues to get your books.  Yard sales, flea markets, Ebay, used book stores, and Amazon are great places to find great used physical books.

For your digital library, you always have Amazon and websites with independent sales, but there are also such things as bundle sales.  What is a bundle sale?  A bundle sale is where a bunch of authors go together and combine all their books to provide a very well-rounded avenue of learning.  Typically, the bundles range in price from $29.00 to maybe $50.00 and you receive a very large quantity and value for your money.  I have personally bought many bundles and feel I have gotten extremely more than my monies worth.

Right now there is a GREAT bundle available to you.  It is a bit different than other bundles I have seen and participated in.  This bundle is FREE.  There are some great book in this bundle including The Trayer Wilderness Cookbook ~ Homesteading The Traditional Way ~ Volume 1.  I am very thankful for Shop Ethically‘s unique and free bundle as well as the opportunity to be a part of it!  You will find 20+ books and courses available for FREE and all you have to do is CLICK HERE.  That is the only obligation on your part!!

shop-ethically-banner

So if you love reading and learning as much as I do, don’t wait another minute.  Head over to Shop Ethically and get your free copy of these amazing books and courses.  I got mine and I am very pleased.

I wanted to point out also that my dear friend Susan Vinskofski’s book The Art of Gardening: Building Your Soil is also a part of this bundle.  I recommend her book all the time when discussing gardening.  Not only is her book packed with priceless information it is one of the most unique and pretty books I own with all the beautiful illustrations included within.

I highly encourage you to build your physical library and when you have the opportunity to purchase these wonderful bundles to do so, especially when they are FREE!

If you have taken part in Shop Ethically’s FREE bundle, be sure to head over to TrayerWildernessAcademy.com and add your email to our waiting list.  By doing so, you will receive some great FREE materials and you will receive a coupon for a discounted membership once we have everything in place…

Review: Aftermath by LeAnn Edmondson

Review: Aftermath by LeAnn Edmondson

aftermathLeAnn sure got my attention with this book.  There have only been two other authors that I need to pre-plan when I will read their books and that is Cathy Bryant and Robert Vera, but LeAnn has joined them with her 1st book Aftermath.  I was hooked from the first page and really had a hard time putting it down.  Additionally, I would like to warn you that once you close it you will be wishing you had the next book in hand.

Aftermath is a great book for the whole family.  There are several curse words used throughout the book, but LeAnn kept it clean in that there were no “F” bombs dropped.  She did mention this book was initially geared for adults, but as LeAnn said “Some things are just not necessary”.   I loved how she kept it real and eliminated the doom and gloom and the need for zombies.

Aftermath is unlike other books in the genre in that it does not go into the gory details, take you to places that are completely unrealistic and instead of going into all the details leading up to the event it actually started after the event took place.  In reviewing books, I am always so afraid of giving away the story so my reviews can be tough to write, but the main character Jimmy Walker uses common sense, his military background and the knowledge he gained from hours and hours of research to help him make it out of the city and to his remote cabin.

He runs into struggles along the way, he encounters thieves and unpleasantries,  he also encounters wholesome people to which he joined forces in an effort to have strength in number, learns to appreciate what skills everyone brought to the table and they all learn to work together.

Although this story is about a virus that takes out all electronics across the globe and the unpleasantness that is to follow, it also reflects hope – hope in that no matter how bad things get, there are still good people out there and you can never lose faith!

I also think this book is good for families to read together.  Although we will never know when such events could take place, it is important to be prepared.  Many people today look upon prepper’s as paranoid individuals and we are personally asked often on our take on prepper’s and if we are one.  We live a lifestyle of preparedness and I feel that just like autism is part of a very broad spectrum so is being a prepper.  There are many levels to being prepared and that is why we choose a lifestyle of preparedness because EVERYTHING we do on a daily basis continues to help us be more prepared for EVERYTHING!  In my mind it is no different than have smoke detectors in your home – it is for your safety and is just a smart thing to do and so is being prepared with extra food, water and continuing to educate yourself daily or weekly with new skills and information.  Reading this as a family will give you the opportunity to discuss such events and the importance of being prepared.

Another unique thing about this book is how it started.  Mike Kosinski at TinHatRanch.com actually started the story as a weekly serial on his website and when he no longer had time to keep things going LeAnn asked if she could continue things on her site.  The book  was created from 30 weeks from the weekly serial where the fans helped decide on the content and all the turns in which the story took.  Through the encouragement from her readers she turned the serial into a book.  You can join LeAnn on her website weekly for the continuation of Aftermath at HomesteadDreamer.com.  She is currently working on the sequel which is expected to be out July or August on Amazon.  You can join her newsletter on her website so you can keep in touch and stay up to date on when the next issue is released.  Another added benefit with the family is joining LeAnn weekly to do something unique and find out how the story continues….

Another plus to this book is that it will be a trilogy so when you put this one down you can be certain there will be 2 more to the series.  I encourage you to read this book  and be prepared to have struggles putting it down.

You can also join myself and LeAnn next week (May 6th) on my Mountain Woman Radio show.  You can listen in on Episode 98 here. (If you get a page not found error – please come back and listen on Wednesday)  It was a great interview and I wish LeAnn continued success on this trilogy.

Once you have read Aftermath I would LOVE to have you join me back here and share your thoughts in the comments below….

Review: Crossroads by Cathy Bryant

Review: Crossroads by Cathy Bryant

3D-Crossroads-white-background-smallerI would like to introduce you to my FAVORITE #1 Best Selling Christian fiction author, Cathy Bryant.   I had never found an author that has caused me to be so extremely cautious as to when I pick up their books until I read Cathy Bryant’s first book about two years ago!!  Now let me explain this, I have to be cautious with her books because I struggle greatly to put them down and stay focused on my work, writing and honestly EVERYTHING until I have completed the book…. They are SOOOOO good!!

Cathy’s writing style keeps your nose buried in the book eager to find out what is coming next and next and next….  I really love her writing style, the small town setting to which I am so very accustomed, the characters that make a difference in your life and wish you knew personally and the best part is how you can relate is some way personally or through that of a friend/family member to the activities occurring in each chapter.  There is food for thought found on each page and I always feel so incredibly refreshed, enlightened, enriched and even saddened at the end of the book – saddened only because it has come to an end and I am eager to read more and must now wait for her next book! ♥

I encourage you to pick up one of Cathy’s books and currently on Amazon at the time of posting this review her books range in price from $.99 to $1.49.  You will not be disappointed!

MC-novels

These are Miller’s Creek novels, books that tell stories of ordinary people with ordinary problems and an extraordinary God. So step into the pages of Miller’s Creek, Texas…where folks are friendly, the iced tea is sweet, and Mama Beth’s front porch beckons. The Miller’s Creek novels include:

Texas Roads (2009 American Christian Fiction Writers’ Genesis finalist & Amazon Bestseller with over 140 5-star reviews)
A Path Less Traveled (Amazon Bestseller with over 95 5-star reviews)
The Way of Grace (Amazon Bestseller with over 85 5-star reviews)
Pilgrimage of Promise (2013 Grace award reader nominee and Amazon Bestseller with over 100 5-star reviews)
A Bridge Unbroken (Amazon Bestseller rated at 4.7 stars)
Crossroads (Amazon Bestseller rated at 4.8 stars)

My suggestion to you today is to purchase ALL of her books since they are so reasonably priced and start with her first book and work your way to Crossroads.  The reason I say this is because it will paint a very vivid picture in your mind from the beginning and you will find some of the characters return in the future books and it really creates a strong connection to this small community and an eagerness for more.  Additionally, by doing this you may get to Crossroads just in time for her next book to be released and you can just keep going…   Keep in mind that you can easily read them out of order, but I encourage you to pick them all up because they have all played a significant roll in my growth spiritually and personally.

Her latest book Crossroads is about a soldier’s battler for a prodigal soul.  It is compelling and real.

Click here to read the first chapter…

My hope is that you enjoy Cathy’s books as much as I do and are touched just as I am.   I feel Cathy’s books make amazing gifts as well and are so worth sharing with others.

In addition to being able to get her books inexpensively, you also have the opportunity to join her this week.  She is having a Book Launch Party on the 30th here where she will be sharing herself with you as well as doing some fantastic prize giveaways AND you will be able to listen in on the 29th to my interview with her on my Mountain Woman Radio here (if you click before the 29th it will not be available, but PLEASE come back – it was an awesome interview and fun conversation).

Mountain Woman Radio - Episode 97 - Cathy Bryant Christian Author

You can also find Cathy’s devotionals and posts on her blog here and while you are there be sure to sign up for her newsletter so you can stay up on when her next book is available.    I hope you decide to give her books a try and are as touched as I have been….

Blessings,

Tam † ♥

If you have read Cathy Bryant’s books or have just purchased one today, please come back and post in the comments below….

I would love to know what you thought of them….
