Trayer Wilderness - Our Traditional Log CabinIn 2012, we had a very full schedule.  Who am I kidding?  We always have a full schedule, but in 2012 it was very tight and down to the wire.

The Mountain Man built a sawmill.  We purchased some of the pieces for the sawmill from http://linnlumber.com – if you contact them, please let them know that we sent you.  And the rest he fabricated and built here.

To work the bugs out of the sawmill we built the Mountain Boy his tree house on stilts.

We moved along and built the rabbit hutch and chicken coop and finally made it to the intended project, the log guest cabin.

It was a family affair with the help of some friends and the Mountain Man was forced to run a tight ship.  Our guests were scheduled to arrive to stay in the cabin in 4 1/2 weeks from the day we started building it.  The dead timber was felled from our land, dragged, rolled and placed on the sawmill to be cut to size.  We chose to do a square cut log cabin because we liked the look.  Each piece of wood used in the construction of the cabin was handled many times using 1st the sawmill that Glen fabricated, tools from either our ancestors or those that Glen made in his smithy and the hands the good Lord gave us.

The blueprints remained where they started, in the Mountain Man's head, so as we worked on the cabin he provided us with the next set of instructions to complete the task.

The Mountain Man will walk you through the cabin below in his video.  It is 15′ x 20′ traditional square cut log cabin nestled in the tall pines of the northern Idaho wilderness.

“…with God all things are possible. ”  Matthew 19:26

Our family believes that all things are possible with the good Lord, working together as a family and working hard.  We did manage to build our cabin in 4 1/2 weeks and just to paint the full picture for you on how close to the deadline we were….  While the Mountain Man and my father-in-law were shoveling out the saw dust and debris from the inside of the cabin and hand forging the hinges and building the door, my mother-in-law and I were headed to the airport to pick up our guests! 🙂  When we returned with our guests they went to site in their guns while us ladies ran as fast as we could to clean the cabin, add furniture and pretty the place up.  It was quite a rush, but it is also quite a cabin and a great feeling of a job well done.

Being featured on The New Pioneer Magazine's cover in 2013 and my debut article in the same magazine was just an added bonus!  🙂  Wooohooooo…..

Enjoy your tour…
